GitHub CLI (gh) is used to authenticate with GitHub from the terminal. The process involves installing the CLI via a script, running 'gh auth login', selecting github.com, HTTPS, and browser login. A one-time code is entered in the browser to authorize the device. This enables push and other remote operations.
